A1 - A sequence of primitives
Brief:
Students will start by picking a single UN Sustainable development goal and find a related statistic within the context of Aotearoa. Subsequently, students will construct a narrative that is expressed through a sequence of images.
Working through an abstract lens, students will animate geometric primitives and produce an animated GIF through scripted means.
A2 - Looped states
Brief:
For Assignment 2, students will continue to use the same statistic that was used for Assignment 1. However, this time students will start by researching the contributing factors behind this statistic and gain insights into the history and future of this statistic. In this assignment, you will be distilling a narrative for "why" the current status of the statistic has come to pass.
Once again, working through an abstract lens, students will animate graphics produced using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or equivalent tools inside processing to create an animated sequence that showcases their research insights.
Processing animations created by students will have an infinite or looped state meaning there won't be a perceptible beginning or end to the animation, and it can be looped infinitely.
A3 - Interact
Brief:
For Assignment 3: Interact, students will operate in pairs with one taking on a technical role and the other taking charge of the art direction. The team will be fundamentally responsible for delivering the Assignment.
Working through an abstract lens, students will create a simple interaction in Processing that seeks to inform the user of how play can have a role in bringing change to their chosen statistic. The duo can choose to develop either of their statistics for Assignment 3, but cannot choose a completely new statistic. Students can use any input device as an interface. This may include keyboard, mouse, sound or video input.
